  1. A Brief history of sudo(8):
  2.  
  3. The sudo philosophy originated at SUNY-Buffalo in the early
  4. 1980's.  In the Summer of 1986, Garth Snyder enhanced sudo
  5. and released it to the public.  For the next 5 years, 
  6. sudo was fed and watered by a handful of folks
  7. at CU-Boulder, including Bob Coggeshall, Bob Manchek, and 
  8. Trent Hein.
  9.  
  10. In 1991, Dave Hieb and Jeff Nieusma wrote a new version
  11. of sudo with an enhanced sudoers format.  This version
  12. was bought by a consulting firm called "The Root Group"
  13. and released under the GNU general license.

  15. In 1996, Todd Miller, who had been maintaining sudo
  16. for several years in his spare time, brought sudo
  17. development under the umbrella of his consulting firm,
  18. Courtesan Consulting.  Courtesan remains committed to
  19. a free sudo and is sponsoring another sudo rewrite
  20. as well as continued development of the sudo 1.x
  21. code base.
